The site was officially launched as "AdvancedAnime.com" on January 14th, 2002. The original concept was to provide non-hentai images of anime girls. At that time, no other site was completely filling this niche online.
In mid 2002, automated galleries were implemented to ease the update process as new images were added to the site. This soon led to the option for users of the site to upload their own images. The popularity of this feature exploded. Users began signing their screen names to posts and comments. An official membership system was created to facilitate this new popularity and Advanced Anime's popularity has grown exponentially ever since.
Affair Anime was launched on September 20th, 2002 in response to the demand to use this new system to upload ecchi and hentai images. Affair Anime has since been referred to as the "dark side" or "flip side" of Advanced Anime.
In late 2003, both sites underwent a major redesign dubbed, "Parisian". The redesign was inspired by the administrator's experience in Paris. The once separate forum section was integrated with the site and a links directory was later added. The popularity of both sites continued to grow.
In early 2005, both sites were once again redesigned inspired by the artwork of past Advanced Anime contest winners. By this time, the true value of the site was being realized: the community. Members were now able to customize their profiles, send private messages and interact with each other like they had never been able to before.
AA 4.0 was launched on March 12th, 2007. It endeavored to take feedback from members and transform the site design into a light-weight and streamlined experience. Many sections on the site were enhanced to be faster and more efficient while features continued to be added without overwhelming the core of AA.
What started as a small site where users could find non-hentai anime girl images has transformed into a unique online community for fans of anime. It is with the support of all the members, many of whom have been with the site since it was launched, that this site has grown into the inclusive community it is today. People come for the anime galleries, but stay for the community.

Ben has been involved in anime and web development since 2000. In his spare time, he dances
Lindy Hop,
Blues, and
Argentine Tango.
He also enjoys soccer, travelling abroad, creative cooking, and socks. When working on AA, he most often listens to obscure electronica.
Although he no longer watches much anime, he still enjoys the work of Hayao Miyazaki.
Ben is currently studying at Portland State University focusing in International Business.

Jent currently lives in Nebraska, most famous for corn and endless roads leading to nowhere. She is 22 years old, and works full-time at a center for people with developmental disabilities, but is currently looking for a different job. She hopes to go back to college within the next year, with an interest in studying art and politics. Very independent, Jent loves travelling and has met three members from AA in the past year. (You can ask her who they are.) She hopes to travel to England and Japan within the next five years.
Her favorite musical artist is Idan Raichel, and happens to be a big fan of the Final Fantasy genre.
Jent is the newbie of the administration, joining the site in April of '05, but feels that AA has become her home.

Khellamendra is a 21 year old college student who is currenlty studying Computer Multimedia and Desgin. She has recently celebrated her second year as a waitress but hopes to move on to better things soon. When she is not on AA she generally fills her time with writing and messing with HTML, though she is also an avid RPG fan who loves to play D&D the most. She has been a fan of anime since the late 80's, long before it was given it's own category. She has been an avid fan, always finding new and interesting anime.
Khellamendra has been a member of this site since Dec 31, 2003 and plans to stay for a while. She is eager to see the direction it will go in the future.

Ladyfyreyes is a 47 year old would be writer. She hopes to soon have her first novel published. She writes fantasy, Sci-fi and Role playing games. She is currently working on a game called "the Kingdoms" and a novel "A Cry in the Dark". She has been an avid fan of anime since the early 80’s when she was introduced to it at a gaming convention. She enjoys most all anime as long as it has a plot and the art is good. Other interest includes RPG’s, reading, writing, drawing and learning everything. She is currently teaching herself how to draw anime style.
Ladyfyreyes joined the site in July of 2004, after visiting it since August 2002. She is looking forward to watching the AA community grow.

Moosandra has been with the site since June 2002. She is best known for being stubborn and always right.
In her free time, she ice fishes, builds snow forts, and corrupts little children. She is secretly a supporter of both Fundamentalism and the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster.

Phatcrux989 is a southern Cali resident trying to live his remaining teenage days as much as possible by being reckless and stubborn. He spends his time debating useless but hilarious topics, playing video games with friends he knows he can beat, drawing pretty pictures, and skating from point A to infinity.
He has been an AA resident before an official AA site was created and has stuck through the ups and downs oh so curious as to see how it'll end. Because it will. One day. Or wont! One day?
Though not an anime fan in the sense that he has no clue about the recent popular ones, owns no mangas, collects no dvds, and so forth he enjoys the art and respects the form as it has most definitely pushed his interests in drawing.
He has no idea where his life will take him, but knows it'll be one awesome story to tell.
